Lola Shoneyin

Lola Shoneyin (poet and author) is well known for her novels, poetry collections and children’s literature. Her award-winning novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, first published in 2010, has been translated into fourteen languages, including French, Dutch, German, Russian and Spanish.

Her work is internationally recognized for addressing societal issues and values on marriage and the female agency in Nigeria. She is the founder of the Ake Arts and Book Festival. The subject-curator of the John Randle Centre visited Lola, and she generously shared her rich archive of manuscripts and personal photos as well as the various translations of her novels, which she has loaned to the Centre.
